This is not a Moz takedown. DA is not wrong. DA is incomplete for the conversation a client now opens the call with. Even Moz’s own AI Search research from Tom Capper found that roughly 88% of AI Mode citations are not in the Google top 10 for the same query — Moz, in print, saying DA-driven SERP wins are no longer sufficient evidence of AI presence.

Three things ACS gives an agency that DA cannot. First, a per-engine subscore that lets a strategist tell a client “you score 62 on Perplexity but 18 on ChatGPT, here is why and here is what to fix.” Second, a query × engine matrix that isolates which prompts are losing on which engine and triages by retainer value rather than averaged noise. Third, a change-event taxonomy — new mention, lost mention, position improved, position dropped, competitor appeared, share-of-voice shifted — that fires alerts the moment a client’s AI footprint moves between snapshots. A composite score is still a roll-up, and roll-ups can hide engine-level catastrophe behind a comfortable average. Caveat the original researchers preserve and worth preserving here too: correlation is not causation, and link-graph signals still matter for the Google-blue-link side of the house. A 0.664 correlation is strong, but it is still observational data across 75,000 brands. Keep the backlink work, but stop treating it as the lead lever. Earned mentions in the publications and forums where AI engines source their answers are the lever now, and Moz Pro does not measure them as a citation event — it measures them as a backlink, which is a different unit.
